KCMN May 2026 | Marvin Plant Tour Recap
A Look Inside Marvin's Kansas City Facility
KCMN brought manufacturers together on the morning of May 12 for a plant tour and conversation at Marvin's Kansas City, Kansas facility, a company that has spent the last year proving that doing things right from day one pays off.
The morning began with a brief welcome, recognition of KCMN's sponsors, and an exciting introduction: Rachel Keck was welcomed as the network's new Network Manager. Rachel stepped to the front, introduced herself, shared highlights from upcoming events on the KCMN calendar, and then handed the floor to the morning's host.
Robert Conchola, Director of Operations at Marvin's KCK location, opened with a story that set the tone for everything that followed. He was employee number one, hired before a single wall had gone up or a yard of concrete had been poured. His first priority was hiring a great HR Director. From there, he helped build the facility from the ground up, overseeing its development with the mindset that you plan for the team and culture you want before the building ever opens.
Marvin's KCK location officially began operations in May of 2025, just one year ago, with a public opening, celebration, and ribbon cutting following in October 2025. Today, the 400,000 square foot building is home to approximately 160 employees, operating in two shifts and continuing to grow. While the current footprint is impressive, Robert noted there is still room to expand.
The facility itself reflects Marvin's commitment to its people and its community. Hallways are lined with local artwork, and rooms are named after historic Kansas City, Kansas and Missouri neighborhoods, small details that speak to a larger intentionality. Attendees stopped in the employee training room, which doubles as a community event and orientation space, before moving through the full operation.
Throughout the tour, Robert returned to a central theme: Marvin is a 113-year-old, family-owned company that has built its reputation on hiring the right people and treating them well. He was candid about the realities of opening a brand-new facility. Not everything would be perfect on day one, and the team set expectations accordingly. What they focused on instead was creating an environment where people could do great work. The results speak for themselves: in the facility's first year of operation, there have been zero recordable safety incidents.
When asked about his proudest achievement in the building, Robert didn't hesitate. The breakroom. Designed intentionally as a space for employees to decompress and enjoy a quality meal in a quality environment, it reflects a straightforward belief: when you take care of your people, the work takes care of itself.
Thank you Marvin Windows & Doors for opening their doors to our network and sharing such a thoughtful look at what it means to build a manufacturing operation the right way.
