KCMN Community Impact Day Recap

KCMN brought manufacturers together on April 14 for an afternoon of learning, operations insight, and community impact at Labconco Corporation.

As attendees arrived and grabbed lunch, the event kicked off with a brief welcome before transitioning into the Lunch and Learn, The Future of Manufacturing, led by Guide Technologies. Frank Palubiak and Tyler Springer shared what they are seeing across the manufacturing landscape, from artificial intelligence to Industry 4.0, emphasizing that the future of manufacturing has arrived faster than many expected. Their message was clear: whether exploring AI or implementing an ERP system, manufacturers must have a plan and be prepared before taking action.

Following the session, Eric Herrs of Labconco provided an inside look at the company. As Labconco celebrates 100 years in business, he shared how the privately held organization has grown over time, expanding strategically as neighboring spaces became available. With operations spread across multiple buildings, the company has developed a highly intentional approach to managing flow, space, and growth. He also highlighted Labconco’s diverse product lines, which continue to strengthen its competitive position in the market.
Attendees then split into groups for a guided tour of the facility, getting a behind the scenes look at operations including metal fabrication, additive manufacturing, paint, and testing. With a room full of manufacturers, the tour sparked thoughtful questions and meaningful discussion at every stop.

The day concluded with a community impact activity led by Care Package Inbound. Founder and CEO Jessica Silvey shared the organization’s mission to provide support and restoration to the foster care community and its vision to create generational impact. Attendees then packed backpacks for foster youth across the Kansas City area, with careful attention to detail to ensure each bag meets a real and immediate need. The hands-on format allowed every participant to contribute in a meaningful way.

KCMN is grateful to Labconco Corporation for hosting and providing the space to bring this event to life. Thank you to Guide Technologies for leading the Lunch and Learn and to Care Package Inbound for facilitating an impactful experience that directly supports foster youth in our community.
